Fun with Functions and More...

This past Saturday was the beginning of MO-200 Excel.

The class session began with Bonus Quiz 9A – SEO Hats, Techniques, and Consequences. When combined with BQ09B – ccTLD Hack and URL Parts Revisited, Heather, Elijah, and Tsz emerged as holders of the highest score ^_^

I had planned to walkthrough [Fun with Functions and More Workbook.xlsm] with the class but chose to give that time for some students to catch up their classmates.

At the designated time, Jan, Heather, and Tsz took and conquered the MO-200 with Tsz holding the highest score. Earlier this evening, Elijah did the same and eclipsed Saturday's highest score by several points. I wonder if any of his classmates will dethrone he who educated the class on Flight Control Systems.

In the past few days, the four conquerors of MO-200 also sent in their A6 Spreadsheet Analysis with Trailer. This first of two capstone assignments will heavily contribute to BQ12 – Microsoft Excel 2019 and Spreadsheet Analysis and BQ13 – Apex of Excel, to be given together and is worth an entire bonus letter grade for IS101-3003! Tsz exclaimed that he wants to take on BQ12 & 13, I'm stoked :-)

  1. (A) This assignment was definitely not as “Fun” as the name indicates. It was a challenge, as I was particularly stuck on the logical references. With this assignment, I learned to appreciate the autofill option and learned numerous formulas that will come in handy in the future. However, despite the challenge, I am proud that I was able to figure it out on my own. 😊

    (B) The video showcased a remarkable tale of serendipity that resulted in a significant and unexpected revenue stream. It's incredible how the island of Niue owns the .nu country-code top-level domain (ccTLD) and managed to secure a lucrative contract with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers by pure chance.

    (C) brewit.al

    (D) The video shed light on the complex logistics and operations that go into delivering mail and parcels around the world. It’s impressive how technology can process and be used to sort and distribute mail, including the enormous spreadsheet that tracks the location of every mail item at every stage of the process. Overall, the video provided an interesting behind-the-scenes look at the world of mail delivery and highlights the critical role that technology plays in this industry.

    (E) I am proud to say that I am now one of the few individuals that understand the praise and popularity that circulates Microsoft Excel. Like many others, I was intimidated by Excel and dreaded working on it. Since the program and the formula features require you to plug numbers and equations, I automatically assumed that it was going to be torture trying to get through the lessons and complete them. Nonetheless, I passed MO-200 and managed to get a higher score than when I took MO-100. Anything is possible if you set your mind to it! πŸ˜ƒ

  2. (A) My experience on completing [Fun with Functions and More Workbook.xlsm] was challenging it took me several tries to complete some of the tasks while others I found easy. Functions on Excel don't come naturally to me, but I know that with more practice I could conquer the material.

    (B) Wow, Tuvalu is tiny! I had no idea that Tuvalu was a place let alone so isolated from the rest of the world. It's great to know that the country was able to get such a good top domain name. This definitely gave them an advantage and increased their revenue, thank you for sharing the video!

    (C) A unique ccTLD I came up with is coffeeday.in

    (D) The spreadsheet really is something it must've took a lot of work and time to create the spreadsheet. Thank you, Postal Universal Union, for creating the massive spreadsheet to help organize and create an easy way to calculate the time and charge for mailing packages.

    (E) My understanding of Microsoft Excel prior to IS101-3003 was limited. Now, I have a better understanding on the techniques and ways to use Excel. Not only that but it has really helped me when creating spreadsheets for work. I feel thankful to have learned so many new ways to use Excel and frankly make my life easier.

  3. (A) The assignment is easy and it’s interesting to see how marco works.

    (B) I think that people who are willing to live in the island are not craving for US dollars. Analysing the island through money is meaningless. Apart from that, I agree with that the registration fee of ccTLD is really a easy money.

    (C) Cmon.in

    (D) The enormous spreadsheet is a big treasure to human. It makes shipping between countries more easy and convenient.

    (E) Excel is much easy than I thought. I think that now I can also be like the people who can build up a complete spreadsheet in a few minutes. I am proud of myself.

  4. A) Fun with Functions was pretty easy, it didn't take too long to complete and was rather straight forward. It was certainly good practice when it comes to recalling formulas.

    B) Wow, my mind is blown right now, 10% of Tuvalu's GDP comes from their ccTLD that is incredibly impressive and as mentioned in the video, downright lucky!

    C) livedangerous.ly

    D) That spreadsheet gave me anxiety LOL. Truthfully though, that is an incredibly awesome feat from the UPU and the insane collaboration between all of the participating nations.

    E) Excel was great to learn. I think I have a much better understanding on how to use it properly now than I did before the semester.

  5. A) Fun with Functions and More Workbook was fun for the most part especially using the autofill, very satisfying. However, there were a couple of problems that gave me a headache in determining what specific formula was required, especially when I would get the correct answer my way.

    B) Kudos for Tuvalu for getting their coin and able to apply to the UN. I didn't know there was a fee to join and yet I am not surprised by it. Very smart and forward thinking.

    C) My unique ccTLD is praywth.me

    D) There are so many things in the world that make the world run that I never thought of and took for granted. WoW! who were the people that actually came up this this spreadsheet and how long did it take for the initial one to take form?

    E) What the Excel program can actually do is far beyond what I'll ever use it for. But for what I need, I don't find it as intimidating as I once thought and more willing to explore the world of Excel.

  6. (A) Completing the Fun with Functions and More Workbook was strenuous at best. I was almost to the point of throwing my laptop across the room until I realized that it's too expensive to replace and I can just ask Mr. Wu for help. When I thought that I can just use "autofill" for the formulas, there's a hidden trick and you have to use "absolute references". I really was glad when it was over and done with. Would I do it again? Sure it was fun until it wasn't. 😁

    (B) Wow! Tuvalu is a small country and kudos for them getting more money to be able to afford the $100K fee to join the UN.

    (C) An unique example of ccTLD hack you can come up with. oohla.la

    (D) The greatest spreadsheets in the world! Just to show that data processing and information management is very important in this modern world. This video actually made me appreciate our postal workers more.

    (E) I would say that my feelings towards Microsoft Excel have likely improved, and my mastery of the program has likely increased. I found the program to be more efficient and easier to use. I've learned so many new techniques for managing datasets and gained knowledge I can actually use in my day-to-day work.
